The National Symbols of the Republic of Namibia Act, 2018 (Act No. 17 of 2018) authorises the Minister of Justice, under section 7(1)(e) to regulate the content of a pledge of allegiance, how and where it must be recited. A national pledge of allegiance is a promise or oath of loyalty made by those reciting it, for the purpose of instilling patriotism, pride and common identity in the Namibian youth. In Namibian schools, school assemblies are conducted where the learners line up before class, sing the school song, pray, sing hymns for some and for some few, recite the school pledge. The intention is not to replace some of these activities, but rather to introduce a standard pledge of allegiance to be recited in every school, public and private, until Grade 12.

Please send us your suggestions or comment on the proposed National Pledge in the picture not later than, this Sunday 31 July 2019
